Inferno’s Bistro Review

To celebrate mom’s birthday, a group of us went to Inferno’s Bistro on Des Meurons for lunch a couple of weeks ago.

I hadn’t been there for a while so I was excited. 😀 I’ve tried their crab cakes and several different flavours of Moules Et Frites in the past and found them satisfying and delicious.

We were quickly seated when we arrived since mom made a reservation. The restaurant was already packed, but not that noisy. I always liked the ambience at Inferno’s, especially in the summer when the patio is open.

Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Each time I visit, I am impressed that the waiting staff at the restaurant remembers and recites all the specials. Because I can’t remember a damn thing when they start on the fourth special. It may be helpful to provide a separate typed sheet of the specials of the day.

Two of us including me ordered Saumon Panini ($14) – Grilled salmon on focaccia with artichokes, greens and shitake mushrooms.

All sandwiches are served with choice of soup, fries or a small salad. I chose a Caesar salad (with no croutons) which costs extra

When the waiter put the plate in front of me, my first impression was how small the portion was. I am mindful that I have a healthy appetite. But I can finish this in three bites.

The sandwich was flavourful, however, the salmon was overcooked. I expected more from Inferno’s. Is it too dramatic to say overcooking seafood is committing a culinary crime? I will not order this dish on my next visit.

Everyone else enjoyed their dishes.

Dessert time came. I am a fan of creme brulee so I felt compelled to order the Cappuccino Creme Brulee. The hardened caramelized sugar on the top had the perfect texture. The creamy custard at the bottom had a rich Cappuccino flavour. I could have had another one.

I also tried the Lemon Hazel Torte (someone else ordered it). It was dense and very sweet. If you have a sweet tooth and love lemon flavoured desserts, this could be a wonderful choice.

Inferno’s Bistro opens for both lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday. Gluten free menu is available. I recommend making a reservation by phone (not available on OpenTable).
